Rozin Security Integrates Nation’s Leading K–12 Threat Assessment Model into TIPS® Platform

In response to the growing need for effective threat management in K–12 environments, Rozin Security is announcing a new partnership with the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG).
This partnership brings CSTAG’s nationally recognized threat assessment model directly into Rozin Security’s TIPS® (Threat Information Protection System) Case Management Platform. The integration makes it simple for schools and districts to assess and document threats using a proven, research-backed framework—right within the Rozin platform they already trust to manage risk and streamline workflows.
Developed in 2001 by Professor Dewey Cornell and researchers at the University of Virginia, CSTAG is rooted in decades of applied research and real-world implementation. Originally inspired by Dr. Cornell’s work as a forensic clinical psychologist, the model reflects his belief that “the better we understand violence, the better we can prevent it.”
CSTAG’s decision-tree framework helps teams distinguish quickly between transient threats and substantive threats—without requiring intensive investigations or slowing down response times. This is especially important since rigid, labor-intensive processes that treat every threat the same are far less likely to be used consistently or effectively. CSTAG enables educators to consider the context of a threat, resolving most cases expeditiously and concentrating time and resources on more serious cases.
What began as a regionally adopted framework has since grown into the most widely used and scientifically tested school threat assessment model across the United States and Canada—recognized for its practical application, guided professional judgment framework, and measurable impact on school safety.
Dr. Cornell views Rozin Security as a natural partner since both organizations are rooted in behavioral threat management and a commitment to keeping schools and organizations safe from harm.
“Rozin Security shares our core belief that with the right resources and training, it is possible to prevent threats from escalating into violent acts. This partnership helps schools take smart, proactive steps—supporting students in need while avoiding excessive discipline.”
— Dr. Dewey Cornell, Professor of Education, University of Virginia
With this integration, CSTAG’s trusted model will be easier to access, apply, and act on—giving school leaders the tools they need to protect their communities, support students in crisis, and create safer learning environments.
About CSTAG
The Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) is the most widely used, evidence-based model for school threat assessment in the U.S. and Canada. Developed in 2001 by Professor Dewey Cornell and researchers at the University of Virginia, CSTAG helps schools create safer, more supportive learning environments.
CSTAG equips multidisciplinary school teams with a five-step, structured decision-making process to evaluate and respond to threats of violence. The model enables schools to quickly resolve low-risk, transient threats while dedicating greater attention to more serious, substantive concerns.
Backed by more than 20 years of rigorous research—including multiple controlled and large-scale implementation studies—CSTAG is widely recognized as the most thoroughly studied and validated behavioral threat assessment model available today.
